I have been a fan of RC’s since he first appeared with the Photoshop guys some time ago. His writing style reflects his personality in many ways as it is smart as well as humble. I know that sounds a bit strange but after listening to RC’s tutorials and then reading this book, you’ll know what I mean.

Who is this book for?

This book is mainly for those who are starting out in the world of HDR, but there is enough interest for those who are experienced to enjoy it. Overall, the book takes you through the beginning stages of HDR and teaches some valuable lessons on how to process your images into something that won’t make your eyes explode.

Why you should read it?

There are many misconceptions when it comes to HDR photrography and how to process the images. Many of them come from the fact many people think that a good HDR shot is one that is “over-saturated” and must destroy the very fabric that created photography.  However RC shows us exactly how to create stunning images that won’t make your head feel like you just stepped out on to the surface of mars.

The key to this book are the a projects that you can download and go through them with RC. It gives your exactly the help that you need to achieve great results.  Normally, I am not a fan of downloading and working on someone else’s work but when you are working with this kind of editing, it is better to see exactly how each step works rather than experiemnting on a shot that is not exactly similar.

The Verdict

This is a beautiful book and extremely well written. For those who are just getting into HDR photography or want to see what all of the fuss is about, then this book is for you. It is practical and full of interesting projects from one of the best photoshop educator’s around. It also takes you beyond the typical tutorials into the realm of post-processing which is a great feature.

The Price and the Download

For the amount of work and the projects that you can download, this ebook is a decent price which is equivalent to the price of a regular book. If you are comparing it to the rest of the ebooks on the market then it is expensive. Sitting at almost $30 this is a pricey addition to your library, but if you want the complete skills then this is a good purchase. Perhaps the price may throw people off but in reality this is an extremely well put together book and not just a PDF with better pictures.
