It is that time of year again, Bull Fighting Pushing! Cheongdo is having their annual festival very soon… but not yet as previously announced. Thank you to 10 Magazine for getting a timely update.
The event will be held later on when Foot and Mouth is a little more under-control.
At any rate, once it does happen I encourage you to go out the the tiny town of Cheongdo and have a look at the festival. This isn’t the dude in the tight pants that ends up killing the bull as we are used to in the West but rather something more similar to “Cow Sumo Wrestling” It is quite interesting to watch and a great slice of culture to boot.
Where to shoot: The fenced in ring around the main event area is open for photographers. The seating sucks because there were not and actual “seats” when I was there last so trying to get down to the “press area” was a bit of a headache and I know that I pissed off some people trying to make my way down there. Thanks to commenter Jihyeon Lee, things have changed. In the years since I las was there. They have built a modern bull fighting stadium. That means there are seats and better places to sit. Thank you Jihyeon Lee for the updated information!
What to bring: For any sort of sports you want to bring some fast lenses. My favorite for some tight shots is always my 70-200 f/2.8 but at times it was a little too long. I also used my wide angle to try and show the stadium. You would also want to bring a monopod to brace the camera.

Yeah, I really wanted to hit this up and get some filming in. However, it looks as if I might have to wait another year, as the next three months of filming has pretty nearly been booked.

It is really cool to see your blogs. Because i live in Cheongdo.
That area don’t exist anymore. so i think you don’t need to worry about SEATS. There is a modern stadium for Bull fighting.
